Previous owner's inside and dated 14/9/45. Grey covers with a white picture of a newspaper boy holding an armful of papers. The press is one of the most important institutions in Britain, but it is surprising how little is generally known of its history. According to a survey prepared by the London Press Exchange, the circulation of morning newspapers in 1934 was about ninety-five for every hundred families, and each took in an average of 1 3/10ths newspapers on Sundays; yet how many of these readers, one wonders, could give even a single signiticant name or date in the story of the long struggle for liberty of the Press. Despite the frequent revelations and confessions of journalists, the modern newspaper's methods of working also remain mysterious to most people. An interesting look at Fleet Street Newspapers and Journalism.
