In this collection the words of some sixteen people who, in a variety of different ways-experienced the severity of the last Depression in the North East of England. The nineteen thirties are remembered - perhaps above all else for the unemployment. In 1929 some 1,341,000 people were registered as unemployed. By 1932 the figure had doubled and it stayed over the two million mark for three years.
