Ardizzone Edward. Ardizone's Hans Anderson. Fourteen Classic Tales. Selected and Illustrated By Edward Ardizzone. Translated By Stephen Corrin. London Andre Deutsch 1978 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good + Very Good + Edward Ardizonne. D/W is unclipped and covered with a protective wrapper.Red covers with gold design and lettering on front cover and spine. Decorative end papers. The fourteen tales in this selection from the works of Hans Anderson include favourites like The Snow Queen, The Ugly Duckling, The Tinder Box, The Emperor's New Clothes and, of course The Little Mermaid, together with one or two of the shorter, less well-known stories such as The Darning Needle and The Shirt Collar. Edward Ardizzone had always wanted to illustrate a collection of his favourite Hans Anderson stories, and with this lovely book he has fulfilled that wish. His black and white drawings show how well he understands the moods of characters, his colour work, soft and subtle, is superb; beautiful and haunting. In all a most delightful book in excellent condition.

Strong Words,Erdesdun Publications. 1977 Paper Back Very Good Booklet. 96pp stapled booklet, staples rusting slightly.Articles and illustrations of the thirties. In this collection the words of some sixteen people who, in a variety of different ways-experienced the severity of the last Depression in the North East of England. The nineteen thirties are remembered - perhaps above all else for the unemployment. In 1929 some 1,341,000 people were registered as unemployed. By 1932 the figure had doubled and it stayed over the two million mark for three years. The North East then (as today) was one of the worst hit areas. The Hunger March from Jarrow- a town virtually made redundant by the closure of the steelworks and the shipyards- became a National symbol.
