A book in V.Good condition, possibly an unread copy. 272pp, well illustrated. Among great actresses, Fanny Kemble was unique. She never wanter to go on the stage and theatrical triumphs, on both sides of the Atlantic, did not make her wish to stay there. In England she is still remembered as a brilliant actress. Sir Walter Scott, Tennyson and Thackeray were among her early admirers; she lived long enough for Henry James who dubbed her 'the terrific Kemble', to be her friend. In America, where she married and spent manyyears, her fame rests on her passionate abhorrence of slavery which she scathingly denounced in her published journal.

THEATRE/HISTORY/GENERAL INTEREST.
