D/W is un-clipped, a nice copy/ Nothing sold a picture newspaper like a good war, and from the advent of illustrated papers in the 1840's, their editors explointed this fact to the full. Battle could be, and often were, depicted for the papers by a home based artist working from the safety of his studio. Competing journal then started sending their representatives to the seat of the war and thus the front line artist, know as the 'special' was born.Previous owner's name inside front cover.
