On 12 th May 1916 James Connolly faced a British firing squad and paid the price for his part in the Easter uprising. He was a self-educated Scottish-Irishman, a tireless political worker and a leading exponent of Marxist ideology. Together with Daniel de Leon, he was one of the founders of the 'wobblies'.
