This is a story set in 1746 after the Battle of Culloden when the Duke of Cumberland's soldiers plundered the surrounding countryside, looting and burning homes and killing innocent Highlanders with unbelievable savagery and a total lack of compassion. This story, told with a great depth of understanding, captures fully the intensity of emotion aroused by the terrible events of the time- the bitterness, hatred and fear, but above all the determination not to submit.
