1 Ormsby Margaret A (editor) A Pioneer Gentlewoman in British Columbia. The Recollections of Susan Allison.
Vancouver. University of British Columbia Press. 1976 Abridged Edition. Paperback As New.
On the 18th August 1860, her fifteenth birthday, Susan Louisa Moir, in the company of her mother, her stepfather, and her sister Jane, landed from the river steamer at Fort Hope to take up residence in British Columbia. Already a seasoned traveller: before her fifth birthday she had made the long sea voyage from Ceylon, to England. She helped her mother open a school in Hope and in 1868 she married John Fall Allison, riding on her honeymoon over the Allison Trail into the unsettled Similkameen Valley, her record of life provides a unique view of the pioneer mind and spirit.
