36 Breen Dan. My Fight for Irish Freedom..
Dublin The Talbot Press. 1950 1950 Printing. Hard Cover Very Good Good
White D/W is grubby with slight edge wear a couple of small nicks and chips. Book in green cloth on board, with gilt lettering to spine edge, a little faded at the top. Pages lightly browned, illustrated with photographs. The guerilla war that was waged by the Irish Republican army against the British crown forces from 1917 to 1921, served as a pattern for many opressed peoples in their struggles to shake off foreign domination. The successful issue of this protracted effort proved the truth of Terence MacSweeny's axiom : Not they who can inflict the most, but they who can endure the most, will emerge the victors. The deciding factor in such an unequal combat (unequal in numbers and equipment) was the courage, resourcefulness and mobility of the Irish guerillas. In this new edition of My fight for Irish Freedom, more light has been thrown on many of the actors and episodes in that now distant struggle, and especially on the romantic figure of Sean Treacy. Sean was Dan Breen's soulmate. They had shared constant comradeship over the years of great stress and danger. The bond between them was intense that - call it telepathy or what you will - when Sean Treacy was shot dead in Talbot Street, a mysterious manifestation of his comrade's fate was made to Dan who was then lying grievously wounded in the Mater Hospital. From the opening sentence of Dan's great book the story moves at a breathless pace. Introduction by Joseph McGarrity. Scarce in this edition.

39 Brown Malcom The Imperial War Museum Book of 1918 Year of Victory.
London Pan Books Ltd. 1999 0330376721 / 9780330376723 Paperback Very Good
A very nice tight and clean and possibly un-read copy.Previous owner's name inside. 1918 was ppprobably the most dramatic and decisive year in British military history. In the spring there was a fear that Britain might have to evacuate her troops from the continent and lose the war. In the summer came the great turnaround, and by autumn the German armies began to retreat. In November 1918 the First World War was over. This book tells the story of an amazing year through the authemtic voice of the British soldier, a year in which, remarkably, the casualty rates were even higher that those of 1916 and 1917, the years of the Somme and Passchendaele. Excellent photographs and archive material, add to this substantial work.
