Light shelf rubbing to edges and corners, a read copy but in v.g. condition non the less. Illustrated. In 1976 Shane Paul O'Doherty was given thirty life sentences at the Old Bailey in London. He had masterminded the IRA's horrific letter bomb campaign of 1973 which left twelve people maimed and injured. He was only 21 years old. Less than two years later, he wrote to the Derry Journal to announce his total rejection of violence as a means to achieve political change.

'Most of all,' he wrote, ' I would have liked to talk about the rank and file where I found solace,' Raid and Rallies i, an account of various offensives against the British in 1920-21, is his tribute to that rank and ifle. He took part in three and had first-hand knowledge of the others.

Book in bright green cloth on board with gilt lettering to spine edge, slight bends on corners generally v.g.Internally tight and clean outer edges of pagesa little grubby. D/J is unclipped it has light shelf rubbing to edges and corners and is now covered in a protective wrapper. Originally published in 1910 pp 359. this edition with a new introduction by Barry O'Neill. When one thinks of folk music, lilting jigs, reels and hornpipes, those originating in Ireland come immediately to mind. Capt Francis O'Neill, the author of this book, has a fascinating hobby in that he collected Irish Folk Music. During his reasearches he compiled a selection of the songs and music many of which had almost faded into oblivion and been forgotten, O'Neill gathered them together and discovered theit history, how they originated and where they were first heard. Capt Francis O'Neill was born at Tralibane, Bantry, Co. Cork in August 1849 and he attended the national school at Bantry. At fifteen he became a teacher he later emigrated to America where he joined the police in Chicago where in 1901 he became superintendent of police ( the equivalent of our chief of police) He retired in 1905 to relax and work on the preservation of Irish music. Capt. O' Neill died on January 26, 1936. A rare chance to obtain this most sought after book.
