8 Barry Tom Guerilla Days in Ireland.
Dublin Anvil Books. 1989 0947962344 / 9780947962340 Reprint. Paperback Very Good
Outer edges of pages a little grubby bottom spine edge, generally a vg copy.Seven weeks before the Truce in July 1921 the British presence in County Cork was 8,800 front line ainfantry troops, 1,150 Blace and Tans, 540 Auxiliaries, 2080 machine gun corps, artillery and other units a total of over 12,500 men. Against these British forces stood the Irish Republican Army whose Flying Colums never exceeded 310 riflemen in the whole of the County of Cork, men moreover with "no experience of war, untrained in the use of arms, with no tactical training, practically unarmed. This is the extraordinary story of the fght between those two unequal forces, which ended in the withdrawl of the British from 26 counties. In particular it is the story of the West Cork Flying Column under Tom Barry, it's commander of genius.

9 Beecher Sean. The Story of Cork.
CORK The Mercier Press. 1971 853422494 Paperback Used Acceptable
123pp , white pictoral covers, slightly grubby, pages lightly browned, crease across top corner of front cover, internally some odd foxing. This book has no pretentions to be a 'Definitive' history of the city. It is the story of a city, albeit a special city. It is an attempt to draw a profile of Cork. Cork like most Irish towns and cities just grew up. It was not planned, in fact one might say that it was this very spontaneity which has contributed more than anything else to the formation of its character, a character which would prompt Desmond MacNamara in The New Statesman to call it 'a city of tattered grace, probably the most seductive and loquacious in Western Europe'. Sean Beecher has tried to reflect the personality of Cork people by showing how, they and the countless generations of Cork inhabitants have created the city.
